What is Dyscalculia?
The Learning Disabilities Association of America defines dyscalculia as "a specific learning disability with an impairment in mathematics, which can affect calculations, problem-solving, or both. It impacts all sorts of numerical tasks and is inborn, meaning you are born with it. Although there is not yet a generally accepted definition of dyscalculia, the DSM-5 mentions difficulties with number sense, memorization of basic math facts, and accurate and fluent calculation."

What Do We Teach?
We focus on strengthening foundational math skills and targeting key concepts rather than following school curriculum or state standards. Our personalized approach helps students with dyscalculia build number sense, problem-solving strategies, and confidence in math.
Number Sense & Basic Arithmetic
Number Sense is an intuitive understanding of numbers and their relationships, allowing for the flexible and efficient use of basic arithmetic operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—along with the memorization of math facts to solve problems quickly and accurately.
Fractions, Decimals, & Percents
Understanding how to compare, convert, and use fractions, decimals, and percentages is key to representing parts of a whole and applying them in everyday math.
Graphs, Charts, & Data Analysis
Organizing and interpreting information through graphs, charts, and data analysis allows us to identify trends, recognize patterns, make meaningful comparisons, and draw informed conclusions. These methods are crucial for understanding complex data, visualizing relationships, and making evidence-based decisions.
Algebra & Geometry Concepts
Algebra concepts use symbols, variables, and equations to represent relationships and solve problems, while geometry concepts focus on understanding shapes, sizes, angles, and spatial relationships to address challenges in the physical world.
Meet Your Instructor!
Jacquelyn is an experienced educator and business owner with over 20 years of experience in diverse educational settings. She holds a BA in Psychology from California State University, Sacramento, and studied Special Education at UNC Charlotte's Graduate School. Specializing in math instruction for students with learning disabilities, Jacquelyn has taught in public and private schools, charter schools, the private sector, and virtually nationwide.
Licensed in three states, Jacquelyn holds credentials in special education, including mild to moderate disabilities, severe disabilities, multi-categorical settings, and learning behavior. She is also a certified math teacher, board-certified in special education advocacy (B.C.A.S.E.), and a trained Dyscalculia Tutor.
Originally from Elk Grove, California, Jacquelyn now resides in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her teenage son, husband, and their cats Leo & Milo. She's a swim mom (Go Wolves!), and enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and traveling to the mountains.
